On July 29th, the second day of the “DongYOU Ji” International Students’ Global Leadership Development Summer Camp’s “Enriching Rural Areas” program took place at the Guan’ao Di research and practice site. From the landscapes of Longyue Tan Happy Valley to the cooking stoves and tea ceremonies at the youth practice stations in rural areas, international students from over a dozen countries experienced China in depth, moving from simply “seeing China” to “understanding China’s culture and traditions”.
In the morning, the team visited Longyue Tan Happy Valley in Guan’ao Di Village. This comprehensive tourist attraction, funded by over 100 million yuan from private investors, combines scenic views, family-friendly entertainment, and educational experiences. It has become a hallmark of Pingyang’s rural tourism. The team members wandered through the beautiful scenery, tried out the colorful grass sliding and thrilling bridges, and enjoyed the cool breeze in the glass-bottom rafting experience. After playing, under the guidance of the organizers of “Chaoxiang Shiguang · Cunkaka”, the international students took photos, capturing the beauty of the landscape and rural life. In their eyes, each photograph represents a unique perspective on understanding China.
In the afternoon, the practice team arrived at the Guan’ao Di Youth Rural Practice Station, where they began hands-on activities. Under the guidance of the person in charge of Qifa French pastries, the international students made traditional mooncakes by kneading dough, filling them, and shaping them. They got to experience the process of creating this seasonal delicacy during the Mid-Autumn Festival. Later, Hu Qianqian, an inheritor of the intangible cultural heritage of Pingyang’s yellow tea-making technique, gave a lesson on Chinese tea culture. From warming the cups to sipping the tea, the international students experienced the Eastern philosophy of “harmony, respect, purity, and tranquility” through the aroma of tea. A student from Morocco said, “Making mooncakes allowed me to taste China’s sweetness, while drinking tea allowed me to experience China’s elegance.”
From landscapes to dining tables, from cameras to teacups, these young people from around the world are experiencing China in their own ways. Moving forward, the team will continue to work in the fields, using youth exchanges and cross-cultural perspectives to write new chapters in the story of enriching rural areas.
