Known as "the pearl of China’s light-industry higher-education sector," Jiangnan University—home to 22 schools, 3,391 faculty, and nearly 36,000 students—has emerged as a distinctive research-intensive university.

Food Science & Engineering ranks No. 1 worldwide for the sixth consecutive year, Textile Science & Engineering No. 2, and Bioengineering No. 3. According to ESI, Jiangnan University ranks No.57 in China and 11 disciplines (agricultural science, engineering, chemistry, biology&biochemistry, materials science, clinical medicine, computer science, pharmacology and toxicology, environment and ecology, microbiology, social sciences-general) fall within the top 1% globally and agricultural science is in 0.1‰.
