Jiamusi University, located at the easternmost end of China, is one of the 100 universities supported by the National "Midwest University Basic Capacity Building Project." It is the only comprehensive university in Heilongjiang Province offering medical disciplines and is recognized as a high-level university for provincial development. The university is situated in Jiamusi City, known as the "Eastern Pole of China," a city acclaimed for its optimal ecological charm and often referred to as the "Little Yan'an of Northeast China." Jiamusi's administrative area lies within the Sanjiang Plain, home to the globally renowned Sanjiang Wetland (one of the world's three major wetlands), the internationally famous Heixiazi Island, and the unique Hezhe ethnic culture. It is also the birthplace of the "Great Northern Wilderness Spirit," a key national commodity grain production base, and the place where the sun first rises in China.

The university was founded on July 20, 1947. In 1995, with the approval of the former State Education Commission, it was formed through the merger of Jiamusi Medical College, Jiamusi Institute of Technology, Jiamusi Teachers College, and the former Jiamusi University (municipal). After 2000, Jiamusi Grain Staff Secondary School, Fujin Normal School, and Heilongjiang Provincial Science and Technology School were successively incorporated. The university has four campuses in Jiamusi City, covering a total area of 1.3466 million square meters, with an overall land area of 2.4662 million square meters. The main campus is nestled against Sifeng Mountain to the south and overlooks the Songhua River to the north, featuring lush greenery and picturesque scenery. It has been recognized as a Provincial Civilized Campus and one of the first "Green Campuses" in the province. In 2025, the Fuyuan Campus was established in Fuyuan City, dedicated to creating a new model of university-local collaboration, a new platform for industry-education integration, and a new window for opening up to the north.

The university's total assets amount to 2.131 billion yuan, including teaching and scientific research equipment valued at 450 million yuan, showcasing advanced facilities and abundant resources. It possesses diverse teaching, research, and practice bases such as the Fujin Farm and Sifeng Farm, along with numerous innovative practice platforms including the Engineering Training Center and the Municipal-University-Enterprise New E-commerce Talent Training Base. The grand comprehensive experimental and practical training building spans over 30,000 square meters. The campus offers five tranquil and comfortable graduate apartments, 24 modern and convenient undergraduate dormitories, and well-equipped international student apartments. Additionally, five student dining halls (with a total of 140 food windows) featuring diverse cuisines and serving as hubs for both dining and academic exchange create a fully functional and vibrant learning and living environment. The university also boasts first-class cultural and sports facilities, including a concert hall, art gallery, comprehensive gymnasium, standard swimming pool, and track and field grounds. It features red clay and hard court tennis venues meeting international standards for four major tournaments, as well as dedicated venues for ice hockey, speed skating, and other winter sports. A comprehensive wired and wireless integrated network covers the entire campus. The library, blending traditional and digital resources, integrates educational and service functions. With its rational layout and rich collections, it is an ideal place for students to engage in dedicated study and research.

The university's disciplines and programs span 11 major fields: Literature, Science, Engineering, Medicine, Law, Agriculture, Economics, Education, History, Management, and Art. It has a complete system for conferring bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees, including 2 first-level disciplines authorized for doctoral degrees, 14 first-level disciplines and 1 second-level discipline authorized for master's degrees, and 16 master's professional degree authorization categories. It hosts 2 postdoctoral research流动站, 3 postdoctoral research工作站, and 1 postdoctoral innovation practice base. The Clinical Medicine discipline has entered the ESI global top 1% ranking. The university has established 17 "Eastern Pole" academic teams and boasts provincial-level teams such as the "Leading Goose" team for "R&D of New Biomedical Oral Implants and Supporting Equipment" and the "Spring Goose" team for "Research on Nutritional Diet for Prevention and Treatment of Gout and Hyperuricemia." It also has 2 provincial "Double First-Class" characteristic disciplines and supporting platforms: "Northern Medicine and Functional Food" and "R&D of Oral Biomedical Materials and Personalized Manufacturing."

The university has established friendly cooperative relationships with 26 universities and research institutions across 7 countries and regions, including Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Japan, South Korea, Canada, and Malaysia. Actively integrating into the "Belt and Road" initiative, it is committed to building an educational bridgehead for opening up to the north in eastern Heilongjiang and strives to establish an educational and academic exchange center for Northeast Asia leveraging its geographical advantages. Initiatives launched and hosted by the university, such as the "China Heilongjiang-Russian Far East University Student Mathematics and Computer Competition" and the "Heilongjiang-Amur" International Research and Education Forum, have become flagship projects for regional educational exchanges with Russia. As a designated institution for the Chinese Government Scholarship, Heilongjiang Provincial Government Scholarship, and the "International Industry-University-Research" Joint Postgraduate Supervision Program, the university has joined the Sino-Russian Medical University Alliance. Currently, international students from 27 countries across Asia, Europe, Africa, and South America are pursuing their studies here.

Jiamusi University is a designated institution under the Chinese Government Scholarship program, enjoying autonomous enrollment rights. For the 2026/2027 academic year, the university also offers the "Ministry of Education - Heilongjiang Province Co-funded Eurasian International Student Scholarship" program, providing full scholarships for students from 13 Eurasian countries: Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Moldova, Azerbaijan, and Mongolia to pursue doctoral, master's, and bachelor's degrees.
