HEU was founded in 1953. It is a comprehensive university with a profound culture and distinctive feature. Over the past seven decades, HEU has made significant contributions to Shipbuilding Engineering, Marine Equipment Development, Ocean Exploration, and Nuclear Energy Application. On September 7 2023, President Xi Jinping inspected HEU and fully affirmed its achievements.
HEU currently has more than 3,000 faculty and over 34,000 students. The Shipbuilding and Ocean Engineering Discipline of HEU ranks 1st in the evaluation organized by the Ministry of Education of PRC. Nuclear Science & Technology Discipline ranks 3rd, and Control Science & Engineering Discipline ranks 6th. In the U.S. News Global Subject Rankings, HEU’s Mechanical Engineering ranks 43rd worldwide, Civil Engineering 62nd, and Optics 91st.
HEU adheres to high-level openness to the world and actively engages in international cooperation in education, scientific research, and cultural exchanges. It maintains collaborative ties with more than 130 universities and institutions in over 30 countries. Four Chinese Government Scholarship Programs, including the High-Level Postgraduate Program, the Silk-Road Program, the Marine Scholarship of China, and the Atomic Scholarship of China are offered to support degree studies of international students. For years HEU has been devoting to training professionals for the Belt and Road countries in the various fields of Engineering.
The International Student Apartment provides 700+ rooms—single, double or family—with 1,000 beds and all daily essentials, plus shared laundry and kitchen facilities.
