The session also included two inspiring student sharing segments:

GOGOI GHANIBHUTI, a third-year undergraduate student, holds a unique place at HKUST(GZ)—as the only international student in the very first cohort of undergraduate programs. Speaking from three years of firsthand experience, Gogoi walked the audience through his personal journey of adaptation, from the initial challenges of language barriers and cultural differences to gradually finding his footing in both academics and campus life. His honest reflection on homesickness and how he built a support system among local and international peers resonated deeply with many newcomers, offering them both reassurance and encouragement.

SAPUTRA FABIAN WANGSA, a MPhil student, brought a different but equally valuable perspective. Beyond his academic pursuits, Fabian shared his passion for exploring China beyond the classroom. He recounted his travel adventures across multiple cities—from the bustling streets of Shanghai to the serene landscapes of Guizhou—and offered practical advice on transportation, budgeting, and cultural etiquette for student travelers. He also delighted the audience with humorous stories about learning Mandarin. His lighthearted yet insightful talk reminded everyone that embracing the host culture—both inside and outside the university—is an integral part of the international student experience.

Throughout the session, attendees actively posed questions to speakers, creating a dynamic and participatory atmosphere. The event was well-received, fostering a sense of community and preparedness among the new international cohort.

HKUST(GZ) remains committed to providing holistic support, ensuring every student feels informed, valued, and ready to thrive.
