2026 International Undergraduate Students Program Of Henan University of Chinese Medicine

1. About HUCM

Henan is a major birthplace of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). It is the hometown of Zhang Zhongjing, the sage of TCM. It is also the place where three classic TCM works, namely "Huangdi Neijing" (The Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon), "Shanghan Zabing Lun" (Treatise on Febrile and Miscellaneous Diseases), and "Shennong Bencao Jing" (Shennong's Classic of Materia Medica), were compiled. Henan is rich in Chinese medicinal materials, with more than 2,780 varieties. Both the number of varieties and the output rank third in China. In addition, Henan is the birthplace of Chen-style Taijiquan.

Henan University of Chinese Medicine is located in Zhengzhou, Henan Province. Founded in 1958, it is one of the higher TCM institutions established relatively early in China. It is jointly built by the Henan Provincial People's Government and the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, a university in the National Midwestern Higher Education Revitalization Plan, and a university for cultivating international students with Chinese government scholarships approved by the Ministry of Education. It serves as the leading center for TCM talent cultivation, scientific and technological innovation, medical services, social services, and cultural inheritance in Henan Province. Over the past 60-odd years, the university has developed from a single TCM discipline to a comprehensive university with coordinated development of multiple disciplines such as medicine, science, management, engineering, and liberal arts, covering multiple training levels and categories including undergraduate, postgraduate (doctoral and master's), international students, and continuing education.

Henan University of Chinese Medicine initiated its international student education program in 1993. It is one of the first institutions of higher education approved by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China to recruit international students. Additionally, it is a designated university for cultivating scholarship recipients under the Chinese Government Scholarship Program and the Henan Provincial Government Scholarship Program. The university currently offers academic education programs covering bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in majors including Traditional Chinese Medicine, Chinese Materia Medica, and Acupuncture, Tuina & Massage. It also provides short-term advanced study programs and Chinese language training courses.Adhering to the philosophy of "Fostering Virtue and Soul, Cultivating Talents with both Moral Integrity and Professional Competence", the university has long been committed to the cultivation of traditional Chinese medicine professionals, the service of public health, and the advancement of science and technology in the traditional Chinese medicine industry.
