Xuzhou Medical University, situated in Xuzhou, Jiangsu Province(less than three hours by train to Beijing or Shanghai), a historical and cultural city known as “Thoroughfares to Five Provinces”, is an institution of higher education under the direct administration of Jiangsu Provincial Government. Established in 1958, XZMU has now become the center of medical education, medical service and medical research in the north of Jiangsu Province as well as in the whole Huaihai Economic Zone.

XZMU consists of 17 colleges (departments) and 36 affiliated hospitals (clinical colleges), with more than 17000 full-time students and 1400 faculty members. There are 29 undergraduate majors, covering four disciplines of medicine, science, engineering and management. Among them, Clinical Medicine and Nursing specialty open to international undergraduate students. The university has the first-level discipline authorization in basic medicine of doctoral degree and authorization in clinical medicine of doctoral degree, post-doctoral station of biology and clinical medicine, and post-doctoral research workstation of clinical medicine.

School of International Education (SIE) of Xuzhou Medical University (XZMU) was founded in 2011. SIE is responsible for international students’ admission, academic affairs, routine administration and graduation. In 2012, HSK center was set in SIE, XZMU and SIE started to recruit master degree students. In 2014, SIE started to recruit PhD students. In 2016, SIE started to recruit Nursing undergraduate students. Now SIE has more than 400 undergraduate and 50 postgraduate students from 50 countries. All undergraduate and graduate programs are taught in English.

In recent years, the university has continuously strengthened its foreign exchanges and cooperation, and has established inter-university cooperation with more than 30 well-known overseas universities and research institutes, such as Harvard University, Imperial College of Technology, National University of Singapore, and University of Wollongong in Australia and Yonsei University in Korea. Teacher training bases have been established at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Cardiff University in the United Kingdom. In addition, the university hosted many international academic conferences, and the international influence has been further expanded.
