Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU), established in 1896, is a national key university directly administered by the Ministry of Education of China. In the 2023 ShanghaiRanking, XJTU is ranked first in Western China. As a comprehensive research university, the university includes 32 schools, nine undergraduate colleges, and three affiliated hospitals, offering a wide range of programs in science and engineering, medicine, economics, management, humanities, law, philosophy, art, education, and interdisciplinary studies.

The 2023 ShanghaiRanking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects places 38 XJTU disciplines on its list, with 23 in the global top 100, 11 in the top 50, and four in the top 10. XJTU’s mechanical engineering has maintained the No. 1 position for two consecutive years. The 2023 Essential Science Indicators ranked XJTU’s engineering programs in the top 1‱. Both the Management School and the Law School at XJTU have achieved QS Five-Star accreditation. Today, XJTU boasts eight first-level national key disciplines, eight national key laboratories, ten national engineering and technology research centers, and two national innovation platforms fostering industry-education integration.

XJTU’s international education can be traced back to 1955. In 2013, XJTU was awarded the title of the “Demonstration Base for International Education in China” by the Ministry of Education of China. As of 2023, a total of 3,068 international students from 130 countries were studying at XJTU. Among these students, 2,906 were pursuing degrees, including 1,142 undergraduates, 863 master’s, and 901 doctoral students. As of Spring 2024, XJTU holds the No. 1 rank for international degree education in Western China and is among the top 5 most popular institutions in China for international degree-seeking students.
